Burning Tree

Just trying to get one more autumnal drawing completed before Halloween. Mostly just trying to create an image that captures a certain Halloween atmosphere.

Graveyard Ghost

A "quick" papercut sketch of a ghostly grave. Just barely made the Halloween deadline.

Gotta Catch Them All

I never in my life thought I would draw a Pokemon character. BUT after: a) reading about a third dead body found by a Pokemon Go player on Thursday, and b) seeing a picture of this Krabby character, I had to do it.

So here it is. Hopefully it's still topical. Are people still playing Pokemon Go? It seems like trends are over before I have an opportunity to comment upon them. I am old.

I wonder how many cold cases are going to be solved by Pokemon players stumbling on dead bodies. Maybe we'll find out what happened to Jimmy Hoffa finally.

Josephus Miller

Josephus A Miller from the Expanse series by James S.A. Corey.

I only have one of the books left to read, but have also only seen one episode of the show. I kind of like Tom Jane as the character, but always imagined him as having more of a hang-dog, Tommy Lee Jones, kind of appearance. So here's how he looks in my head when I'm reading the books.

Goldfish Mermaid

Because #MerMay.

After seeing the MerMay tag floating around the net so much lately, this idea popped into my head.

I can't resist drawing a poop joke.

The Dude

May the Fourth Be With You!

I'm not exactly sure why I thought a pop-culture mash up of Chewie and The Dude would be funny. But I still think it is.

Playing with a new way of "inking" my lines.

Cockatrice

The mythical cockatrice. A half serpent, half chicken monster that can kill with only a glance. Shield your eyes!

Mech Juice

This is how I remember the word for "Beer" in the Korean language. Mech Juice = Maekju = Beer

I was playing around with a new brush pen for the lines on this one. I feel like it was a successful first attempt.

Amanaman

A weird alien from Jabba's palace.

I have the old Kenner figure of this character, and I always found it amazingly bizarre.

Mr Ted Cruz,
Where were you on December 20th, 1968?
We deserve the truth!

I finished reading Sharp Objects over the weekend. Enough said.

Picking Up The Pieces

Inspired by Star Wars: Aftermath by Chuck Wendig. How did the Jawas end up the Mandalorian armor?

A is for Aye-aye

I've decided to work on another ABCs of Under-Appreciated Animals.  I did something like this about five years ago, and had quite a lot of fun with it

Wood Duck

I saw this fella in Boise, ID a few years ago. I took a picture, but wasn't happy with the framing (a big branch was in the way). Works well for a digital painting reference though!

Great Blue Heron

A big blue that I photographed earlier today at Nisqually National Wildlife Refuge (near Olympia, WA).

Typically I don't upload my photos on here, but I quite like how this one turned out.

Wiggly Charlie

From the Grim Reaper series by Christopher Moore (A Dirty Job, and Secondhand Souls). He's one of the Squirrel People which Moore based off of of the sculptural assemblage works done by Monique Motil.

This one likes cheese. And has a specific piece of anatomy that he uses to tie his wizard robe shut.

There's really no way to properly describe the character, but he's hilarious.

Many thanks to my wife for doing the inking on this one.

Malheur National Wildlife Refuge

The Bundy Bunch reminds me of a 10 year old who spends the afternoon building a snow fort, complete with arsenal of snowballs, then sits there disappointed until dusk because nobody wants to play.
It's just like that, only way more ignorant and belligerent.

Spawned Salmon

A spawned-out coho carcass that I saw last year while working.
