Exotic: Cabinet of Curiosities - Fiji Mermaid

A wunderkammer style Fiji Mermaid papercraft. I created this by cutting rigid bristol board which I covered with a light watercolor wash, and then I shaded each of the individual pieces using black pastels. I am quite pleased with the outcome!

This piece is currently available (framed) at our Etsy store.

And here are a couple of extra pictures of the piece:

Pacific Northwest Chorus

Another quicky drawing I completed in my sporadic free time.

I wanted to try a different take on Bigfoot, and was thinking of him as a hair panchoed simpleton.

Hopefully I don't offend anyone with Bigfoot bloodlines.

Elwetritsch

The Elwetritsch, a German crypto-critter that's a bit like the elusive snipe.

A Elwetritsch is supposed to be a bit like a flightless chicken with antlers, a long beak, and more recently human breasts.  Apparently there are organized Elwetritsch "hunts" in a region of Germany that are quite a lot like snipe hunts; basically an excuse to have a laugh at someone else's gullibility.

The Vault: Wally

After uploading the Chupacabra I thought I'd upload another of my cryptozoo-critters.
This guy is a little more obscure. He's Wally, the Wallowa Lake monster. He's a bit of a local legend where I'm from, even though it seems like half the people I ask have never heard of him. Sightings of him are supposed to go back as far as the native Nez Perce tribe.

Mysterious: Chupacabra

A candid snap of the mysterious Chupacabra, aka: The Goat Sucker.

Lately I've been on a bit of a cryptozoology kick, and have been wanting to do some more of these kinds of creatures.  Any ideas?

I know this one is a bit of an oldy, but it seemed to fit really well with this week's challenge at Illustration Friday.

The Vault: Fiji Mermaid

It's been a while since I did any personal drawing, so I've decided to start dragging some of my older drawings out of the vault.  I've been meaning to repost a lot of my artwork since my old blog went tits up, so this is as good of an excuse as any.

This is my version of the famed Fiji Mermaid.  I wanted to play off of the fact that Fiji mermaids were usually just mummified monkey torsos sewn onto dried fish bodies.

I really enjoyed messing with the colors and lines in this one too.

Sneaky

The enigmatic Bigfoot.  Why is it that Bigfoot still continues to elude us?  Could it be that Bigfoot is trained in some sort of Japanese art of stealth?  Could it be that Bigfoot is actually a ninja!?

Now, finally, the world has proof.

This is for a contest over at Illustration Friday.  The topic for this week was "Sneaky".
